How to Write a Powerful Blog Mission Statement, Vision, & Values
“How to Write a Powerful Blog Mission Statement, Vision, & Values” has been updated to reflect current trends and topics in 2019.
Success doesn’t come in a day; you need to work for it and know your end goal. Maybe you’re a blogger that’s ready to give everything up, but there’s still a part of you that’s ready to give it your all to before you do.
If you’re a blogger struggling to find success, I have a little piece of advice that helped me keep going: write a powerful mission statement, a vision, and your core values.
If there is one thing I’ve learned from blogging, it’s how important it is to stay true to yourself. It’s so easy to get lost in transit. Social media and Instagram is such a big part of our lives. It makes it so easy to beat ourselves down and compare ourselves to everyone we think is better than us.
Trust me; I have been on this same boat for what felt like years! It’s an emotional whirlwind. One minute I love what I do, and the next, I want to throw my computer out the window!

I know, I know. You’ve probably read things like this everywhere. “If you just be yourself and work super duper hard, you’ll be successful AF.”
Well, that’s not necessarily true. The blogosphere is so saturated, and it’s pretty tough to stand out. So before you start working on your About Me page and figuring out WHO you are, you need to figure out HOW you’re different than the rest.
It took me a long time to figure this out. Mostly because I had no direction, I copied whatever everyone else (in my same niche) was doing and hoped for the best.
It wasn’t until I decided to rebrand from “Delirium Style” to “Yeah Ok Ciao!” that it finally made sense.
I was struggling to write and come up with ideas because I couldn’t even figure out who I was writing for, what my purpose was, or what made me different than the rest.
When I rebranded, my number one goal was to determine my Mission Statement, Vision, and Core Values. Why? Because for about five years, I couldn’t decide on who I was writing to, why I was writing, and what my long-term goals were. I was too indecisive, and it was leading me nowhere.
I couldn’t figure out my voice, and I didn’t care who my target audience was, which led me to a long list of ill-written blog posts, most of which made no sense.
So, you ready to get started??

My Step-by-Step Guide on Writing a Powerful Blog Mission Statement, Vision, & Values
1. Mission Statement
Your mission statement should be your anchor. It should define what you do and why you started in the first place. Your mission statement will guide your audience on what you blog about and remind you to always stay on topic.
Ask yourself the following questions:
- Why do I blog?
- What questions do I answer?
- What value do I bring to my audience?
- What topics will I cover? And where am I most knowledgable?
- What kind of things and ideas do I enjoy the most?
- Which bloggers do I admire? Why?
- Will I be personal about my writing?
Once you have these answered, determine your Who, What, Where, Why, and How.
Keep it short. It should be around 1-3 sentences. Take as long as you need to make it uniquely yours. Man Repellar has one of my favorite blog mission statement to date.
Here is my final Mission Statement:
Yeah OK Ciao! is a destination for women to find that feel-good-self-loving lifestyle and everything in between.
Find everything you’re looking for through my collection of curated content, first-hand experiences, city guides, and storytelling.
2. Vision Statement
A vision should determine what you want your blog to become, and it should directly reflect what value your blog will bring to your audience.
Ask yourself the following questions:
- What problems am I solving?
- Where do I see my blog in the next 5 years?
- What inspires me to keep growing?
Here is My Final Vision Statement:
To explore every city and tell the story behind every brand that does a little good in this world.
3. Core Values
Your values will give you purpose. It will lead you to your goal. It will help you stick to staying true to yourself. You can have as many core values as you want, but make sure you know why they’re essential to you and your blog.
Ask yourself the following questions:
- What do you want to be known for?
- What priciples or values will help you achieve your mission statement?
- What pricipals or values are important for your blog & decision-making process?
Here are My Core Values:
Sustaianability, Honesty + Integrity, Ethical + Eco-Conscious, Value + Creativity, and Self-Love.
Yeah Ok Ciao!

Definitely important to stay true to yourself in blogging! I found the best way to not beat yourself up over blogger envy is to just realize most of it takes a lot of hard work and time. More often than not, perception isn’t realistic and it’s best to just stay away from the competition by being yourself and focusing on you. Great post girl!

PHENOMENAL post babe! I totally know the feeling so well, and comparison is the key to kill inspiration for sure! In fact, when I find that I am falling into that trap (it happens!), I take a blog detox and I actually don’t ready ANY blogs to help get my voice & groove back. Also I love that you are talking about this because I think as bloggers it happens to us all!! xx Shannon
