Not Editing Your Photos

This is so important! One of the easiest and most comprehensive ways to edit your photos will be with Adobe LightroomIf you’re new to Lightroom, I’d recommend watching a course or two on Skillshare, learning what your editing style is, and scouring the internet for presets. Of course, once you’re more comfortable using the platform, you could even create your own presets!

Skillshare is my favorite place to go when I’m looking to learn new photography + editing skills. They are offering my followers 2 free months of premium content!

Not Listening to Your Readers

Blog strategically. If you aren’t noticing traffic on your blog, clearly there is something wrong. You aren’t publishing useful content, or maybe you’re targeting the wrong niche. Glance over your google analytics and use social media to ask your readers what they want to see.

[mkdf_numbered_list number=”1″ title=”What are My Keywords?” text=”Head over to Google Analytics and see what keywords your audience is searching for and how they’re finding your blog.” text_color=”#efa885″]
[mkdf_numbered_list title=”Where is my traffic coming from?” number=”3″ text=”Is it from search engines? Or maybe Pinterest? Use GA to track where all of your traffic is coming from and use that to your advantage.” text_color=”#f6c270″]
[mkdf_numbered_list number=”5″ title=”What are my competitors doing?” text=”Find popular blogs in the same niche and see what tools they are implementing. What are they blogging about? What could you implement to make your blog even better?” text_color=”#5583a6″]
[mkdf_numbered_list title=”What are my most popular blog posts?” number=”2″ text=”Find your top 5 blog posts and build on them! Come up with blog post ideas you think your audience would find valuable.” text_color=”#87a389″]
[mkdf_numbered_list number=”4″ title=”Who is my target audience? and why?” text=”Always keep in mind who you are writing for so you don’t go off-topic and making sure you are writing for THEM.” text_color=”#f8dcce”]

Once you can answer all those questions, it’ll paint the picture of what your focus should be. If you’re still unsure, try looking at your competitors and see what they’re doing differently and how you can improve.

Ignoring Social Media

Just because your Facebook page isn’t as engaging as your Instagram, it doesn’t mean you shouldn’t share on there as well. Share your blog across all your platforms and always have all social sharing channels on your blog. You never know where it’ll end up on and who’s share will make your post go viral! Sharing across all platforms can be a little tedious, but that shouldn’t stop you.

Helpful Social Media Tips
  • Create a featured image and copy for each platform you’re using.
  • Take a skillshare course on Pinterest best practices
  • Get personal and engage with your following on IG
  • Take a different approach to each platform
  • Take your IG stories to the next level

Pointless Blog Posts

Remember: Quality over quantity! Your audience needs a reason to stay. If there is nothing valuable or engaging in your blog posts, why would they?

When I first started blogging, I had no idea what blogging meant. Readers won’t begin to magically appear. You need to make things exciting and lure them in with value! Sure, you can write a sentence about your weekend and call it a day, but what’s the point?

Take a minute to plan out your content. Once you’ve figured out your audience and what they want to hear, come up with blog post ideas. Build on each post; that way, they stay on your website.

Don’t forget to be unique and personal. Your readers are following YOU. That means they are interested in what you have to say. Build a relationship with them by being honest, funny, personable, relatable, or valuable.

Your Website is Too Messy + Not Mobile-Friendly

If you’re new to blogging, you don’t need to invest in a theme right away. You should get comfortable with the platform and get some feedback. Use a free template until you find one you love, and you’re skilled enough to know how to install it and use it.

Homepage Essentials
  • Find a clean, elegant theme on Creative Market
  • Have a logo, color palette, and tagline
  • Mobile-optimization
  • Place your CTA above the fold
  • Easy to Navigate

Your website must be mobile-friendly. You will lose a lot of traffic if users can’t visit your site, especially those visiting via social media.

You're Not Optimizing for SEO

SEO is crucial! Make sure you instal Yoast SEO and optimize all content. If you’re not too familiar with how this works, Skillshare offers a lot of courses of SEO that will make it a lot easier to understand. P.S. Don’t forget to use my referral link to get 2 months FREE! You Haven't Defined your Mission, Vision, and Values

Do you sometimes feel like you forget why you started blogging in the first place? It happened to me for so long. I’d get so overwhelmed with creating blog content because I didn’t know who or what I wanted to convey.

When I rebranded, I made sure to list out my Mission, Vision, and Values so I can always look back at when I feel lost. You can see mine on my About Me Page.

Obviously, your “About Me” page is something you can keep tweaking because chances are, as you change and grow, your blog will too.

And trust me, once you define your mission, vision, and values, the ideas will start pouring in.

One little tip: Rewrite them as many times as you want! Read them out loud, show it to someone else, get feedback, and if you feel like it doesn’t define you or your blog, rewrite them.

Yeah Ok Ciao!

quantity over quality was definitely something I struggled with at first. Now, I care more about the content and its worth than just sharing just to share. Your followers will appreciate you more. These are great tips! Thanks for sharing!

I was on the same boat when I just started. I got so overwhelmed because my days were so busy because I felt obligated to always have content up! I’ve definitely noticed a change since I focused on quality instead

Love this post! I really struggled with quantity over quality when I first started – even on IG! But once you find your “groove” and be true to yourself, the more success you find. Thanks for sharing!

Awesome tips! I am all about quality over quantity too. Great point about sharing across all social platforms–you never know when something might catch on like fire on somewhere you’d least expect! I think another mistake bloggers make it comparing themselves to others!

This is so helpful! The one thing I could improve upon I know is turning my outfit posts into a story. That I find so challenging. The photos part is really what I enjoy most.
