I’ve had an old, rugged watch clutching onto my wrist for years. It’s gold and vintage and a tiny bit nostalgic. We’ve been inseparable since my 18th birthday. Truthfully, I never understood the need to have more than one watch until I met my watch-addicted boyfriend. Small ones, big ones, bright ones, metal ones; he gave a perfectly reasonable excuse to own them all, and soon after I caved into this ridiculous — yet perfectly reasonable— addiction.

Like any Gen-Y, my wristwatch addiction has flourished into a curious love affair with jewelry. My watch holds no time-telling purpose. Why? Because that’s what my TV-sized cellphone is for. So, when I saw JORD and their enviable wooden watches all over my Instagram feed I became mildly obsessive, to say the least. I began picturing how absurdly this wrist-sized accessory would impact my life; the way it’d make my wrist so utterly cool and laid-back; how hunky-dory my timeless outfits would turn out to be.

As I unboxed my JORD watch I fell into a deep and modern romance with every sensual piece of timber that makes it so. The love is as real as Aziz Ansari’s love for highly recommended tacos.

Maybe it’s because wooden accessories remind me of a misunderstood lumberjack who just wants to drink beer, chop some wood, and listen to the Violent Femmes all night, but I feel pretty fucking cool. This watch has changed my game in ways only The Pink Ladies, leather jackets, and cigarettes can understand.

Note: my definition of cool is heavily influenced by Grease, loads of red wine, and songs from the 50’s, 60’s, & 70’s
