Summer is the crazy friend you were always longing to leave behind. She’s annoying as hell and you sort of want to bang her head against the wall repeatedly but the laughter and crazy stories that come along the way make it a little hard for your to end it. Summer is fucking crazy. I’m hot as hell and maybe I’m taking it a little more personal than I should because of the sunburn I got this weekend. It’s hot wherever you go until you step inside and it feels like you’re locked inside the frozen food aisle. The heat in Florida is pretty unbearable most of the time and I try to wear anything equivalent to feeling as if I’ve got my birthday suit on and by that I do not mean this one. It’s hot that is until I’m sitting in my office and all I’m thinking of is of all the ways I could sneak in an emergency blanket (or maybe just a shawl) in there so I don’t die of hypothermia.

So here’s the thing, once I was finishing annihilating my 5th cup of coffee so I could keep warm I thought of my deep and passionate love I have for dressing up for work. I thought of every pair of shoe I’ve worn and that time I was so upset I wore jeans (because I guess I didn’t get the memo everyone was wearing perky dresses and A-line Skirts). I dreamt of the time I wore a poncho and wished I could pull it off during this awful heat but this is all beyond the point. I realized that I didn’t need a warm blanket or an alpaca coat I only needed one thing. I needed the perfect, essentially appropriate, and entirely basic summer shawl and that is exactly what I found. I felt like the modern Audrey Hepburn and will continue to do so every time I put it on.
